World Vision

This Christmas season, the Grade Ones are raising money for the organization, World Vision.  This is a voluntary activity and any donation amount is appreciated.  We are growing our “global hearts” as we accept donations to purchase a dairy goat and chickens for a family in need somewhere in the world.  We have had several thought provoking conversations over “what” would be most beneficial to a family- soccer balls, blankets, or chickens and a rooster?  “If we “feed” the children, then they won’t need medicines, so we should give them food.” “They don’t use money; they trade.  We should give them an animal so that they can have something like food to trade.”  Wonderful evidence of problem solving and thinking!

We raised 100 dollars and purchased a dairy goat!  (Thanks to Mr. N, our SEA for “topping” up the money pot!)  The payment has been given to World Vision.  Thank you for supporting this worthy cause and helping to “grow” compassion in our children.  The world is a better place because of YOU!

A Visit from the Dentist

This week we had an educational visit from a local dentist and a parent in our community.  Dr. Hassiri and a dental hygienist, Jen, visited our class.  Dr. Hassiri  told us about how he became interested in dentistry.  When Dr. Hassiri was a young boy, his dentist would let him tour the office and talk to him about the dental profession.  Dr. Hassiri was inspired to study and work hard in school to learn and follow his “dream!”  Jen showed us the correct way to brush our teeth.  The Hassiris donated tooth brushes and floss to inspire all of us to brush our teeth and gums!  Thank you to the Hassiris and Jen for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit our class.

Have you been brushing and flossing your teeth?

Do you know how many primary teeth children have?   (Hint: Double the numeral 10!)
