Young Writers

Can you guess who I am? Look at my hair!

The Grade One learners were excited to “own” the pencil today!  After reading the  Literacy Place text, Hair, the children discussed their hair.  We heard about curly, wavy, spiky, red, blonde, and black hair!  Some children giggled as they explained that they had “bed head” hair!  First they drew a self portrait, “zooming in” on details, describing their own hair.  Their illustrations told a story about their hair.  Next, the children printed a title and attempted to write about their hair.  We celebrated our work in Writer’s Circles.  The children were all so very proud of their efforts.
