Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Did the leprechaun visit your house?  Were you pinched by one of the wee rascals?  Did you build a leprechaun trap? Perhaps, you found some gold!  Maybe…the little rascal visited the classroom?

FYI–  The wee rascal did visit the classroom!  Luckily, the little imp left golden coins (with chocolate inside) and a sparkly pencil on each tabletop!

Wreaths of Poppies

First, the children traced their hands onto green construction paper, cut out their traced hands, and glued them onto the wreath shape.  Next, the children used red pastel to outline the shape of a poppy.  Then, we painted the poppies with red paint.  Our student teacher cut out the poppies and Mrs. Nielsen glued them onto the “hands” wreath. Our joined hands symbolize our “connection” and promise to promote Peace.  The poppies are a symbol for Remembrance Day.  At the school Remembrance Day assembly, class delegates will carry the wreaths to the front of the gym.  Our Principal will take the wreaths to the Legion for the City’s Remembrance Day ceremony.

This month the children will further develop their Social Responsibility skills learning strategies that will help them peacefully solve conflicts.  We want to be friendly, welcoming, and kind.   We want to learn to listen to another point of view. We will discuss the meaning of Remembrance Day  and the symbol of the poppy.  We will make a classroom wreath filled with doves and poppies.  A school wide assembly will be held on November 10 to remember those  who fought and served to protect our freedom.

“Bootiful” Ghosts

The children used white kitchen trash bags to create  simple, yet “Bootiful” ghosts!  They used  black felt markers to create  spooky faces and newspapers to stuff the bags.  The teachers tied black ribbon bows to the ghost’s necks.  I am certain that the community will be filled with many little “spirits” on Hallowe’en eve!  BOO to YOU!
