We “like” Mr. Davodevil!

After a weekend at the Boekhout’s, socializing with Monty the Moose, Mr. Davodevil returned to our classroom!  We giggled when we saw his earring!  Mrs. Boekhout attached a Canadian flag pin to the little Tasmanian Devil’s ear!  In class, Davo is calm and quiet (lol) and enjoyed the time he spent in Mrs. Donnelly’s Drama class this afternoon!  The children are making another pipe cleaner friendship necklace for Mr Davo to wear.  Each child is stringing a “lovely” bead onto the necklace.  We really are overjoyed to host Mr. Davodevil and will ship him off to Georgia, USA on Friday!

AnswerGarden: What can you do to help the Planet?.

April 22nd is celebrated as, Earth Day, around the world!  It’s a good time to think about our Planet and ways in which we can make a positive difference to create a sustainable home for “all.”  Please consider clicking on the link provided and type a word/s that will explain how you and your family can help the Earth.  We will create a word garden, a type of paperless wordle!  Consider planting a tree or some seeds!  The insects, birds, and creatures will “thank” you!

Davo the Tasmanian Daredevil

Today a package arrived from a teacher in MA, USA.  Inside the package was a Tasmanian Devil stuffie.  At first, we were confused!  What exactly is this creature? Is it some type of marmot?  Who made the lovely beaded necklace that the little dare devil is wearing?  Who invited a Tasmanian Devil to our school?  Well, Mr. Davodevil is here to visit our classroom and find out a little more about Canada before he heads to Georgia, USADavo will spend the weekend with, Monty the Moose (Mrs. Boekhout’s stuffie) and return to our class on Monday!  Mr. Davodevil needs to rest as he is a little worse for wear and definitely squished from traveling to Canada by mail!  In fact, he screeches a lot and is rather nasty!  Monday, we will clean him and place a pink sparkly beaded necklace around his neck.  What exactly is a Tasmanian Devil?  Stay tuned.  Your teacher needs to do some research over the next few days! lol

Can you help me?  Do you know anything about Tasmanian Devils?

A Message from Jan Brett!

>Dear Lynne,

Thank you for writing to me.  It’s always a pleasure to read the
mail.  I’m glad to hear from you.  Congratulations on being one of the
winners of the contest.  This coming week I’ll send you a letter with a
list of books for you to choose from, please pick 10 books and send the
letter back to me.  I loved being out on our travels, and I’m happy being
home with time to work on my next book.
This fall’s book, MOSSY, has just been printed, and my desk is now
covered with photographs from Russia as I start work on my fall 2012 book,
CINDERS.  I’d like to tell you a bit about it.

Best regards,

Jan Brett

Jan Brett Inspires Us!

The children were entranced viewing Jan Brett’s video, How To Draw a Bunny and I was amazed and delighted to view the children’s sketches of a bunny!  Here is just one of several dear sketches that were illustrated by little learners.  Thank you, Jan for inspiring the children! This young artist even put the “sparkle” into the bunny’s eye! I’m certain that Beatrix Potter is smiling, too!

and we want the community tolove” her illustrations and stories, too! We enjoyed sharing this month’s favourite Jan Brett story, The Easter Egg, with a captive audience at our local book store, Chapters!  The children were enchanted by dear Hoppi and shared their connections to the Easter Bunny!  “Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!”  Adorable Hoppi stick puppets with white pom pom cotton tails were carefully coloured and crafted, delighting our young audience and their parents!  Of course, we encouraged the parents to support our school’s quest to host beloved author/illustrator, Jan Brett!  We were thrilled to see some of our “friends” from school attend this literacy opportunity.  Thank you to all for your amazing support!  A very special thank you to Chapters bookstore and their amazing staff for providing this partnership opportunity, supporting our educational community!  We are grateful.
